He studied the clerical script in his youth. Later he came to realize that the clerical script of his time departed from the clerical script of the ancients in spirit. Thereafter he learned directly after the calligraphy of Han steles and stone inscriptions and eventutally created a simple yet unique, naive yet archaic style totally of his own.
